guide to using its-myworld

Newsdesk, messages, passport, penpals...

Newsdesk
In the newsdesk area, students can respond to the news stories on display or suggest a news story of their own. Every time a message is posted, a link appears to visit the student's home page. This is yet another way that students can see each others' pages.

You can either encourage your students to write their messages and stories when they are in the newsdesk area, or to prepare them in advance and then add them to the newsdesk.

Messages
In this section of its-myworld, your students can communicate with other its-myworld users. Whenever they receive a new message, a text will appear under their ID photo in the left column. Students can reply to messages and visit the page of the user who sent the message.

Passport
The its-myworld passport is a links section with a difference. When students click on the passport they see a list of categories. When they click on one of the categories, a list of sites appears on the right with information about each site. If they click on the site, another window opens to enable them to visit the site. When they close the window and return to their passport, they will find that it has been stamped 'Visited'. If they like the site they can click on the red icon that changes the stamp to 'Approved'. When a student approves a site, it is added to a special passport folder called 'My sites'.

Pen pals
In pen pal pages students can read messages from people around the world who want to exchange emails (key pals). All the messages are divided into two age groups: 12 to 17, and 18+.

To help keep the site secure, the email addresses in this section are only visible to its-myworld users. Apart from responding to messages that have been posted by other people, your students can also leave their own messages. When they complete the form, they can include their its-myworld home page address so that others can visit their pages.

Activities
This section includes a selection of activities from the its-english site. Your students can also use the its-english site with their its-myworld ID and password.

E-cards
A selection of electronic greeting cards that your students can send by email. They can choose the date on which the card is sent.
