guide to using its-myworld

The basics

When students enter the site, they are taken to a homepage where they'll see the latest Student Alert and links to recently updated pages. To view or edit their own pages or to go to other parts of the site, they use the menu on the left.

The 'Profile' link takes them to their main profile page where they can enter information about themselves. When they view this or other pages, highlighted links appear in the left menu displaying the different options for the current page.

The options at the top of the menu relate to the user's own pages. The 'Also available' options link to other areas of the site such as the penpals and newsdesk.

Most of the editable pages work in the same way. Students are presented with a template which they complete. They can complete the templates with as much or as little information as they want. Any sections that are not completed will not be displayed once the page has been saved. Information about the student's school or home town is not displayed to protect their privacy.

When students save their work, it can be viewed by other users. Obviously, the more content students enter, the more complete their its-myworld pages will look.

If a student knows the address of another user, they can visit the person's page by typing their its-myworld address in the 'Other worlds' box in the menu. It's also possible for users to find each other by using the 'Search' box in the menu. A selection of pages are displayed on the its-myworld homepage.
