Being a student in Scotland

We asked some students, who are currently studying in Scotland, what they thought was so special about the place and the people. This is what they said.

The weather changes a lot of times a day, but it is not so cold. In my opinion the wind is the worst part of the climatic conditions.

In Scotland smoking cigarettes in public places is now forbidden. If you are a smoker, don't forget your umbrella.

I thought it would be difficult to understand the Scottish way of speaking, but it really isn't difficult.

The colours.

The people are the Best. When I was there I was very worried and my idea of the people was completely wrong. They are very helpful, friendly and very kind.

Because they are famous for punctuality and organisation, delaing with the people is very smooth.

The opinion of a Scot is always direct but moderate, never irritating.

The best thing I felt in Scotland was Scottish people are very nice and kind. When I ask them something, they help me with a smile.

What's so special? The pub! There's a lot of different kinds of pub, some more traditional than the others but the friendly atmosphere is always present.

There are good oppoprtunities to speak or improve English with Scottish people in pubs, colleges, shops, anywhere. I like it very much.

Scottish people are more polite than Londo people. I always hear "thank you" and "cheers". People always smile when they walk in the street.

I like the architecture. My father is an architect. I hope my father can build a Scotland house that I can live in.

Scottish culture blends the present with the past. The present day culture is very dynamic with modern art galleries, vibrant bars, nightclubs, and music festivals.

Learning English is difficult but in Scotland the people are patient and helpful when it comes to using their language.

When I was in Nepal I heard about the people in Britain, especially Scotland. I didn't believe it but now I am here I have found the reality is the same. I am impressed with the people. I am learning many many things.

Hear the people like to eat fish and chips. Fish is very healthy but chips arenpt so healthy.

In Scotland there are a lot of beautiful places including museums, for example the Museum of Transport and the Scottish Football Museum.

Sports! People here like rugby and football. And the Scottish rugby team is one of the best in the world. You can practise some interesting sports here including skiing.
